A new star is rising in Weihai, Shandong and China museum field. It is China Jiawu War Museum, which is a special protecting and managing organization for Liugong Island Jiawu War Memorial Place in Weihai. It is a famous patriotism educational demonstrating base. 

Liugong Island in Weihai is the witness of the Chinese modern history a hundred years ago, it was the base for Qing Dynasty's North Ocean Navy, and the main war field of Sino-Japanese Jiawu War and was the shame of British Colonial rule. The Island has North Ocean Navy's commander office, Ding Ruchang's House, Navy's Classroom, Navy's Sanatorium, Iron Port, Telegram Office, Electrical Bulbs Stage, and battery, and it became a first class naval port in Asia. North Ocean Navy was the first class in Asia, the fourth class in the world. In the Jiawu War, the Navy soldiers fought and died for the country and carried out the splendid patriotism. After the war, Liugong Island became the British colony. In 1988, the State Council appointed the "Liugong Island Jiawu War Memorial Place" as the key historical relic-keeping unit.

iawu War Museum is a memorial relic one, which consists of the main contents of the North Ocean Navy and the Jiawu War. The site of the museum, which lies in the North Ocean Navy Commander's office, is the only well-protected senior military office in China. The museum opens the following sites: North Ocean Navy Commander's office, Dragon King Temple and Opera Building, Ding Ruchang's house, North Ocean Navy officers and men Memorial Hall, Yellow Island Emplacement Weapon Hall, Qiding Mountain Emplacement, Donghong Emplacement, etc. It covers 100,000m2 and has the travel pattern of combining cultural relic and Island's natural scenery.

The Museum presents the North Ocean Navy and the Jo War by historical relics, photograph and files, sand plates, models statues and films. It has lots of valuable historical relics. Such as: Jiyuan Fleet, the front double major cannons, Jiyuan iron anchor, Britain Royal Navy training torpedo, North Ocean Navy officers and men's certificate of appointment, telescope, compass, and pocket watch, etc. All these rare treasures make the tourists recall and remember the history and people. The duplicated Kerobo Cannon in Jiawu War period is true to nature with all functions, and can be practiced, thus riches the national defence knowledge.

The Museum aims at patriotism education and arousing the people's spirit, insists the policy of social benefit first, enriches the patriotism education and was praised by people from all walks of life for its work. During 15 years, over 10 million visitors home and abroad, 60 leaders of the Party and Movement, VIP in foreign countries and friendly groups visited the museum and it achieved great social benefit. It was honored as national advanced unit in cultural work, national excellent social educational base, national children's educational base, national patriotism education demonstrating base etc.

The museum's aim is to develop the museum into the center of North Ocean Navy and Jiawu War historical relics, establish academic center on North Ocean Navy. Jiawu War and modern coastal defence, establish patriotism, ocean and coastal defence education center, establish the famous tourist site.
