More efforts are needed to intensify the building of grassroots courts so as to establish a more fair and square trial system across the nation, a senior Chinese official said.
According to Luo Gan, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and secretary of the Committee of the Political Science and Law under the CPC Central Committee, grassroots courts are the major force for the implementation of the national strategy of realizing the rule of law.
"The construction of grassroots courts should focus on the improvement of judicial work and taking substantial measures to overcome bad conducts or practices when carrying out their legal duty," said Luo at a national conference on strengthening construction of grassroots courts held in Jinan today.
"The judges should, in a comprehensive way, lift their political awareness, trial ability and disciplines observation which is in line with the general requirement of 'honest, practical and serving the people'," he said.
The government should also support the courts in exercising their jurisdiction independently and help solve difficulties that grassroots courts face, said Luo. (xinhua) Edited by: Yu Liang
