A Shandong court has successfully persuaded a newly-wed couple to withdraw their divorce application.

The couple said they believed their marriage was inauspicious because of a car accident on the way to the wedding ceremony.

The bridegroom, Li, and some of his friends were on the way to collect his bride for the ceremony when a truck collided with one of their cars injuring five people.

The bride's relatives insisted on a divorce believing the accident was a sign the marriage would be full of disaster.

Hearing their reason to divorce, the judge advised the upset couple to rethink their decision they agreed to continue their marriage.
