Li Jianguo was appointed secretary of the Shandong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) yesterday, replacing Zhang Gaoli, in a decision by the CPC Central Committee.
Zhang Gaoli had earlier been appointed secretary of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee, replacing 68-year-old Zhang Lichang.
Li, born in 1947 in Juancheng, East China's Shandong Province, graduated from Shandong University in 1970.
Li has worked as deputy chief of the CPC Tianjin Provincial Committee since 1993, before he was appointed Party chief of Shaanxi in 1997.
He is a member of the 15th and 16th CPC Central Committee.
