A special ceremony was held in Qingdao, a port city of east China's Shandong province, on Saturday to launch a national campaign to promote mountain hiking to Chinese residents.
The activity was organized by the Chinese Mountaineering Association and Qingdao Municipal Government, who have invited other Chinese cities to join the campaign.
People's Daily reports more than 300 teams of nature lovers and hikers from around 20 Chinese cities flocked to visit 38 parks and scenic spots on famous Mount Laoshan near Qingdao for free on Saturday. Around 300,000 local residents joined them.
The activity was held as part of the national public fitness campaign that is being held across China in the lead-up to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. |
